Miley Cyrus reunites with Pharrell on ‘Doctor (Work It Out)’

Pop superstar Miley Cyrus and legendary producer Pharrell have teamed up once more to release ‘Doctor (Work It Out)’, 10 years on from their previous collaboration.

The pair worked together on the 2014 song ‘Come Get It Bae’ and now the magical combination of Miley’s glam-rock vocals and Pharrell’s shimmering production returns on ‘Doctor (Work It Out)’. The track itself was actually first created around 2012 during Miley’s Bangerz era and was leaked online in 2017. However, following a little 2024 refresh, their pair are officially ready to unveil it to the world.

Speaking to Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1, Miley and Pharrell spoke about the track’s origins and why it took until now to be released. Pharrell said: “We just knew it was early. You just never know. And there’s a moment where you feel like you feel the stickiness in something, but you may feel that the environment is not ready for it.”

Miley added: “We just believe so much in timing and in everything happening when it’s supposed to. And around the Grammys, Pharrell and I were talking about putting the song out, and it just felt like it was so serendipitous, and there were so many alignments and so many moments that made me know that now was the perfect time. And then sometimes things in our past make more sense in our present than they ever did then. And so this song, I think the nature, the celebration, the feeling, especially with the video, the joy, the dancing, the letting go, it’s what this song really always needed.”

She isn’t wrong – the track itself is a gloriously groovy disco-infused bop which showcases a fun and carefree Miley. Paired with Pharrell’s distinctive production style, ‘Doctor (Work It Out)’ is a slick release from the pair which leaves you craving more. The music video sees Miley let loose as she dances her troubles away.

2024 is proving to be a huge year for Miley Cyrus so far. Just last month, the singer won her very first GRAMMYs for ‘Flowers’, the lead single from her previous album Endless Summer Vacation. She won both Best Pop Solo Performance and Record of the Year, whilst also giving a rip-roaring performance of the track. She also took home International Song of the Year at last night’s BRIT Awards.

‘Doctor (Work It Out)’ is available to download and stream now.
