Ramadan Gas Loadshedding Triggers Surge in LPG Cylinder Price in Pakistan

Amidst government pledges of uninterrupted natural gas supply during Ramadan, households in various parts of Pakistan are grappling with loadshedding, prompting a surge in demand for LPG cylinders. This surge in demand, driven by the necessity to ensure seamless meal preparation for Sehri and Iftar, has led to fluctuating prices in the open market.

For domestic use, the 11.8-kilogram LPG cylinder, a staple for many households, now commands prices ranging from Rs9,000 to Rs13,000 across different cities. To circumvent disruptions, consumers are turning to online platforms, where various companies offer convenient delivery services. Additionally, alternatives such as the 10-kilogram Fiber LPG Gas Cylinders are available, with prices starting from Rs10,500, subject to variations between suppliers.

Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) extends its LPG offerings in several cities under its jurisdiction. For a security deposit of Rs7,000, consumers can avail themselves of a 12-kilogram cylinder, with additional charges of Rs1,000 for the regulator and Rs1,000 for service. At the prevailing rate of Rs3,030, a filled SNGPL LPG cylinder costs Rs12,300 in cities like Lahore and Rawalpindi.

In adherence to Ogra’s notified price of Rs3,030.25 for an 11.8-kilogram cylinder, the official rate per kilogram stands at Rs256.78. However, in the open market, consumers are purchasing LPG at Rs300 per kilogram.

As households navigate through the challenges of Ramadan loadshedding, the fluctuating prices of LPG cylinders add to their concerns. With online platforms offering convenience amidst the rising demand, consumers are seeking viable solutions to ensure uninterrupted access to essential cooking fuel during this sacred month.
